This is a promo for a an new BBC series, Human Planet. The clip is gorgeous, but the title really bothers me. We do not live on a human planet, yet as humans we have laid claim to almost every inch of Earth’s surface. The program focuses on cultures that live on the frontlines of wilderness. These groups are made up of pastoralists, hunters and gatherers who intermingle daily with wildlife. Sometimes livestock gets eaten and sometimes rare creatures are killed, but their crossing of paths in unavoidable. Indigenous peoples can play the essential role of guardian in these remote and precious places. By taking culturally appropriate steps, organizations like TTF helps to protect their traditions and support them in their efforts to both safeguard their ways of life and the abundantly diverse planet.
